Families & Children's
Programs
Helping children
and families build on existing strengths so that their full
potential can be reached.
Big
Brothers Big Sisters
The Big Brothers Big Sisters program
matches at risk youth, aged 7 to 17, with adult mentors to create
all-important, one-on-one relationships. Mentors devote a few hours
a week for one year. The adults and youth spend the year having fun
and exploring personal, social, cultural and health/hygiene issues
essential in producing lasting changes.
Child
Guidance Program
The Child Guidance Program has been
helping troubled children and their families since 1982. The
professional staff specializes in the early identification,
intervention and treatment of behavioral social and emotional
problems in young children. Staff includes a consulting
psychologist, bilingual, bicultural and licensed clinicians and
graduate-level interns. Fees are based on a sliding-fee
scale.
Family
& Individual Counseling Program
The Family &
Individual Counseling Program helps families, couples and
individuals cope with problems and crises encountered in life such
as divorce, unemployment or the loss of a loved one. Licensed
counselors and Masters-level interns also help with personal issues
such as marital difficulties and depression. Fees are based on a
sliding-fee scale. Bilingual/bicultural counselors are available and
insurance may be accepted.
The
Family Build Project
FSA staff provides outreach and case
management services for families on-site at Housing Authority
facilities in Santa Barbara and at FSA. The case manager provides
home-based outreach, assessment, parent education and case
management services. These services are offered at no
charge.
Healthy
Start Programs
Healthy Start is a collaborative effort by
public and private agencies that connects at-risk families with
existing community resources and information at or near the school
site. In Santa Barbara and Lompoc, 10 bilingual Family Advocates
provide case management services and support to increase parent
involvement in their children's education. These services are
offered at no charge.
School-Based
Counseling
The School-Based Counseling program provides
on-site counseling in 28 public elementary schools from Santa
Barbara to Lompoc. FSA counselors provide counseling, case
management, critical incident response and advocacy services for
elementary-aged children and their families. Bilingual services also
are available. All services are offered at no charge.
