Goleta Valley Junior High School's student body is comprised of four Houses. Each House represents an equal cross-section of the 7th and 8th grade students on campus, and is signified with a distinct color, name, and logo, which represent the GVJH Mariners.

Students compete for House Points in activities throughout the year - this is known as the RACE FOR THE CUP. During the Race for the Cup, Houses are awarded prizes on a monthly basis.

The House with the highest point total at the end of the year is presented the MARINER CUP during the spring Promotion Ceremony.
